Reading scripture like Luke 9:4-5
4 And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust. Luke 9:4-5
and
10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near Luke 10:10-11
You can’t help but think of why did Jesus come across so hard or harsh at times!
Scripture describes Jesus as the lion & the lamb. As Christians we remember the lamb part more often, we tend to remember Christ on the cross beaten up, the picture of Jesus with children, or even with little white furry poodle looking sheep.
It doesn’t help that the world considers Christians as weak people who cling to a fairy-tale to feel better about pain, death and their own weakness.
Jesus was surely a lamb who was slain by his own choice but he is also the fierce Lion of Judah who devoured death & Satan. He rules over an army of angels (here & here). He has a high standard of excellence that nobody can meet and that’s why we need him (His last words were affirming that!).
He also died for his people to pay a debt that indicates his love and pursuit of humanity on a very personal level. He has a plan & a unique calling to his people.
When we screw up & fall, we pick back up & lean into him and just keep running.
