Proverbs 7 is the perfect piece of scripture that conveys the cycle of “lust”. The progress goes like this…
Men (especially) should meditate on it carefully and I think every man if they’re honest will relate to the story.
Let the imagery of “an ox going to the slaughter” be a reminder next time you see the half naked woman in the street, at work or in church.
This is a real issue today and we should address it courageously.
The progress is usually as follows (E’s of destruction), You:
- Encounter something that causes you a stumble – ex. the cute girl at the front desk!
- Entertain the idea of “what it would be like if….”
- Expedite the progress, you start seeking it out, maybe in a conversation that is not 100% innocent in motive
- Explain to yourself why what I’m doing is ok – (ex. tell yourself that you are not doing anything wrong, it’s not like we’re sleeping together!)
- Excuse – give yourself & others excuses to why you did what you did.
So whats the solution? How does one prepare?
Soliman tells us in verse 25-27
24 Now then, my sons, listen to me;
pay attention to what I say.
25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways
or stray into her paths.
26 Many are the victims she has brought down;
her slain are a mighty throng.
27 Her house is a highway to the grave,
leading down to the chambers of death.
pay attention to what I say.
25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways
or stray into her paths.
26 Many are the victims she has brought down;
her slain are a mighty throng.
27 Her house is a highway to the grave,
leading down to the chambers of death.
